To treat the wide variety of colors and types of ink in today’s tattoos you need to comprehensive solution offering the full spectrum of treatment options. Single or dual wavelength laser systems are no longer sufficient. The new TattooStar Combo, made in Germany by Asclepion, offers 4 wavelengths in a single robust platform designed to be a complete tattoo removal solution.
The Interaction of TattooStar Laser Energy with Tissue
When a short pulse of energy from a Q-swtiched laser is absorbed by a target in skin, such as an ink particle, the energy is converted instantly to heat. The fast temperature rise of the target causes thermal stress and shockwaves that result in fragmentation of the target. Melanin will disrupt immediately. The smaller fragmentation debris is subsequently removed by phagocytosis. Vaporization of tissue water at the target site causes immediate whitening for about 10 minutes.
The wavelength of light must compliment the color of the target for efficient results. If a less efficient wavelength is used then much of the energy will heat surrounding tissue causing discomfort and blistering with little effect on the intended target. Four wavelengths are needed to optimally treat all colors of ink on all skin types.
Proper selection of wavelength, pulse width and energy level will lead to a selective removal of pigment or tattoo ink with minimal effects on surrounding tissue. The immediate clinical result will be instant whitening of the treated area that clears in about 10 minutes. With proper treatment there are no thermal effects, seldom bleeding, minimal pain, no scarring and no down time.

Treatment Energy and Beam Shape of TattooStar
The beam shape makes a difference. State-of-the-art technology developed and patented by Asclepion and used in the TattooStar give the most homogeneous spot profile at any spot size and fluence in the industry.
There are no hot spots in the middle and no low energy areas at the edge. The beam mode is made completely uniform across the treatment spot. As a result there are no high temperature areas. The average fluence of the treatment beam can be increased safely for more effective results throughout the treatment spot. A benefit of not having an uneven beam is increased patient comfort at more effective beam energies. There is no need to wait and double treatments.
The following image illustrates the effects of beam profile comparing a TattooStar with microlens array technology with the popular Medlite C3 system. At the same fluence the TattooStar provides an even higher power treatment with no pinpoint bleeding.
